Ingredients to Avoid Using on Your Lips

Your Lips are Moving!

There are some ingredients to avoid that commonly pop up in lip care products as they do anything but provide proper care for your lips. They can potentially cause irritation, allergic reactions, and even long-term health concerns. When seeking out new lip products, be sure to steer clear of products that include ingredients like parabens, fragrances, and petroleum.

Why are These Considered to be Ingredients to Avoid?

It often comes as a shock to most people that it is not advised to use petroleum on your lips as this is the main ingredient in vaseline - which is many people's go-to lip balm. However, using petroleum jelly on your lips is actually counterintuitive. This is due to it trapping moisture in your lips - meaning that while moisture cannot escape, it also cannot get it in, therefore resulting in the further drying of your lips and making this one of the ingredients to avoid.
Parabens are another of the ingredients to avoid when choosing the perfect lip balm for you. Parabens are present in more than just lip balm as they appear in many cosmetics - such as moisturizers, sunscreens, deodorants, and more - but their presence raises a few red flags. Due to their ability to mimic estrogen, parabens are identified as hormone disruptors, and can put you at an increased risk for breast cancer or skin cancer.
It is also important to try your best to avoid overusing fragrance products on your lips. This is one of the ingredients to avoid as it can irritate your skin and trigger allergies - which could result in your lips only feeling more chapped. While they might taste and smell better than most lip balms, fragrance lip balms are highly concentrated and can raise health concerns.

So What Can I Use on My Lips?

Lip products that utilize natural ingredients are recommended over products that include any of these harmful ingredients. Shea butter is known to be a natural ingredient that can work wonders for your lips. This natural type of fat holds onto moisture in an effort to heal chapped lips. Our lip scrubs utilize raw shea amongst other ingredients such as Jojoba, beeswax, cane sugar, and Vitamin E, with the intention of moisturizing and exfoliating your lips. These scrubs utilize natural products and offer a variety of flavors, such as raspberry, peach, our version of Skittles, coffee, and creamy coconut.
Our creamy coconut lip scrub utilizes natural ingredients and steers clear of the ingredients to avoid using on your lips previously mentioned.

While your choice of lip balm might seem like a small, everyday task, it is important to take note of these potentially harmful ingredients to avoid. They just might be lurking in the products that you are constantly using, so in order to secure the best treatment for your lips, as well as the safest one, consider trying a natural lip product.
