Pride and Skincare, and How They Intersect

Pride and Skincare, and How They Intersect

Proud to Have Pride!

June is deemed pride month - meaning we take this time to celebrate gay, lesbian, queer, and transgender pride. Everyone is invited to partake in the joy surrounding this community as we celebrate individualism, self-acceptance, and self-expression. Today we are discussing the intersection between pride and skincare. Skincare might seem like a dull, daily task, but it can be used as a tool for self-love, self-expression, and embracing your truest self, as it is meant to celebrate individual identity.

Pride and Skincare

Skincare is a key form of self-care. Self-care, not to be confused with self-soothing, refers to any actions taken to preserve one's own health. During particularly stressful or difficult times, it is not always easy to keep up with your self-care routines, but it is of extreme importance to not let go of these actions during those times. Your self-care regimens are unique and special to you and should be embraced as such. For this reason, your daily skincare routine - no matter how simple or complex - is a form of self-expression!

LGBTQIA+ Influencers in the Beauty/Skincare Industry

It is important to show support for the LGBTQIA+ content creators that are leading the beauty and skincare industry with their astounding talents as they connect the dots between pride and skincare. Genieve Lang (they/them) offers colorful looks that mainly focus on the eyes as their eyeliner and eyeshadow skills shine through in almost every post. Emma Batty (they/them) is also known for their impressive eye makeup that is often inspired by different albums, T.V. shows, and movies - some of which they starred in! Matt Bernstein (he/they) not only shares stunning makeup looks, but also often includes slides containing information regarding important topics with the intent of further educating readers. Each of these amazing creators are examples of the connection between pride and skincare.

The beauty and skincare industry recognizes the importance of celebrating the diversity of everyone and how their individual routines can embrace these differences and emphasize the intersection of pride and skincare. Pride month serves as a reminder to always not just include, but celebrate, people of all genders, sexual orientations, and ethnicities. The beauty and skincare industry must prioritize doing this not just during the month of June, but throughout the entire year.
